چکیده

The probabilistic serial mechanism (Bogomolnaia and Moulin, 2001 [9]) is ordinally efficient but not strategy-proof. We study incentives in the probabilistic serial mechanism for large assignment problems. We establish that for a fixed set of object types and an agent with a given expected utility function, if there are sufficiently many copies of each object type, then reporting ordinal preferences truthfully is a weakly dominant strategy for the agent (regardless of the number of other agents and their preferences). The nonmanipulability and the ordinal efficiency of the probabilistic serial mechanism support its implementation instead of random serial dictatorship in large assignment problems. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. An experimental study on the incentives of the probabilistic serial mechanism

An Experimental Study on the Incentives of the Probabilistic Serial Mechanism by David Hugh-Jones, Morimitsu Kurino and Christoph Vanberg* We report an experiment on the Probabilistic Serial (PS) mechanism for allocating indivisible goods. The PS mechanism, a recently discovered alternative to the widely used Random Serial Dictatorship mechanism, has attractive fairness and efficiency propertie...

A Design Methodology for Reliable MRF-Based Logic Gates

Probabilistic-based methods have been used for designing noise tolerant circuits recently. In these methods, however, there is not any reliability mechanism that is essential for nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In this paper, we propose a novel method for designing reliable probabilistic-based logic gates. The advantage of the proposed method in comparison with previous probabilistic-based met...

Design and Kinematic Analysis of a 4-DOF Serial-Parallel Manipulator for a Driving Simulator

This paper presents the kinematic analysis and the development of a 4-degree-of-freedom serial-parallel mechanism for large commercial vehicle driving simulators. The degrees of freedom are selected according to the target maneuvers and the structure of human motion perception organs. Several kinematic properties of parallel part of the mechanism under study are investigated, including the inve...

Fair and Efficient Assignment via the Probabilistic Serial Mechanism∗

This paper studies the problem of assigning a set of indivisible objects to a set of agents when monetary transfers are not allowed. We offer two characterizations of the prominent lottery assignment mechanism called the probabilistic serial (Bogomolnaia and Moulin, 2001). We show that it is the only mechanism satisfying non-wastefulness and ordinal fairness and the only mechanism satisfying sd...

Mathematical modeling and fuzzy availability analysis for serial processes in the crystallization system of a sugar plant

The binary states, i.e., success or failed state assumptions used in conventional reliability are inappropriate for reliability analysis of complex industrial systems due to lack of sufficient probabilistic information. For large complex systems, the uncertainty of each individual parameter enhances the uncertainty of the system reliability. In this paper, the concept of fuzzy reliability...
